SB 1102 Hydraulic Breaker from Epiroc – a solid solution for construction and demolition

Epiroc’s range of solid body hydraulic breakers just got bigger with the recent introduction of the new SB 1102 which is defined by powerful, reliable performance in a lightweight, compact package. “The largest in the solid body range, the SB 1102 is all about maximums - performance, durability, reliability and service life and minimums - weight, downtime, maintenance and operational costs,” says Neville Stewart, Business Line Manager for Epiroc’s Hydraulic Attachment Tools (HAT) division. “Key to this Solid Body concept,” says Stewart, “is the elimination of common parts and the integration of all components, the piston and bush being the only exceptions. With fewer working parts and consequently less wear and tear, end-users will reap the ultimate benefit of lowest total cost of ownership brought by increased uptime, long life reliability and reduced maintenance costs.” Integrated components include the maintenance-free high pressure accumulator, located on the side for easier access, with a patented diapragm support for consistent performance and high reliablity and the presssure relief valve for overload protection. “So the only maintenance required is on the non-integrated components i.e. the piston and bushing and here too SB technology keeps it simple.” Stewart explains that the lower floating fit tool bushing can simply be slided out for quick and easy onsite replacement. “This saves the end-user substantially in terms of time and costs as this is only a 10 minute repair compared to having to sned the part off-site which can take up to a couple of days!“ Maintenance costs are further reduced by the breaker’s numerous wear and dust protection components which include an external bushing collar, an exchangeable wear and dust sealing plate and a dust scraper ring. The Solid Body’s slim, compact design and lower service weight (1060kg) facilitates handling and reduces stress on the carrier. Moreover, the compact dimensions make the breaker ideal for efficient and safe operation in confined spaces such as inside buildings, along walls or in narrow trenches. The SB 1102 also features an auto-start start-up mode and energy recovery which automatically utilises the piston recoil energy to reduce vibration levels while simultaneously increasing performance. Suited for 13t to 24 t carriers, Solid Body breakers are ideally suited for a multitude of applications in construction including earthmoving, trenching, foundation work, road construction and maintenance, and landscaping. The breaker is equally at home in the concrete and asphalt demolition sector where it is widely used for building renovations (masonry structures, standard concrete structures), breaking up of pavements and driveways, etc. “As the pioneers of the first ever hydraulic breaker, our 1963 patent changed the way hydraulic attachment tools are used on excavators. Our unmatched 55 years’ experience and know-how is built into our complete hydraulic attachment tool offering. The SB 1102 is certainly no exception. It is solid and it is built to last,” concludes Stewart.
