Growthpoint boosts SA squash with a triple title sponsorship

The leading South African business and international property company Growthpoint Properties has launched its association with national and championship squash in the country by sponsoring Squash South Africa with a thrilling three-event package. The trio of title sponsorships from Growthpoint is a big boost for the sport and gives rise to even more reason for the sport’s federation to celebrate its 25th anniversary this year. Squash SA President, Steve Doëg, comments: “We are thrilled that Growthpoint is backing these tournaments. They are fantastic events and excellent showcases of this exciting sport and the worthy talents of our players. Growthpoint’s association with squash is a most welcome addition which enables us to do even more with our sport.” The sponsored events include the prestigious Growthpoint SA National Squash Championships, the Growthpoint Jarvis Kaplan Cup and the Growthpoint SA Open. Nadine Kuzmanich, Head of Marketing at Growthpoint, says: “We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with sport in South Africa. This title sponsorship of the three tournaments empowers Squash SA to present bigger and better events and, at the same time, raise the profile of both squash as a sport and Growthpoint as a brand.” She reveals that Growthpoint identified squash as a good fit for its high-impact sports sponsorship programme. “It connects our brand with a sought-after demographic through a sport that is relatively uncluttered by other sponsorships. This gives Growthpoint prominent brand exposure while also making a welcome and meaningful contribution to squash. It also furthers our commitment to creating positive impacts in our communities.” Kuzmanich explains that by securing the naming rights for the three major Gauteng-based events, Growthpoint is gaining valuable national exposure to [thousands of members of] the squash community right across the country. Squash SA is the administrative umbrella body for squash in South Africa. Squash players complete across all nine local provinces, which comprise 18 different regions. Its associate members include the SANDF, SA Schools, SA Universities, SA Masters, SAPS and Correctional Services. Squash SA is internationally affiliated to the World Squash Federation and the Squash Federation Africa. Doëg adds: “Attracting a sponsor like Growthpoint, which is already involved in other successful sports such as rugby and tennis, shows squash’s value as a sport in South Africa. We intend to growth this even more thanks to this sponsorship.” South Africa has a proud track record of performance in squash and top-ranked South African players who compete among the best on the world stage. Local player Steve Coppinger is ranked 20 in the world, and Alexandra Fuller, Milnay Louw, Elani Landman and Cheyna Tucker are all ranked in the world top 100. Also, the country is a respected venue for top-level competition events. In 2016, Squash SA hosted the Word Masters Championships, which attracted more than 900 entries. The Growthpoint Jarvis Kaplan Cup is currently underway in Tshwane (10 to 14 July) at various club venues in the city, including Pretoria Country Club, Harlequins and Pretoria High Old Boys. The fiercely-contested Growthpoint SA Open will take place at the Wanderers Squash Club in Johannesburg later this month, from 17 to 21 July. The Growthpoint SA National Squash Championships were held at the end of June at the Wanderers Squash Club. Continuing its proud history of competition since 1910, Western Province players, Gary Wheadon and Milnay Louw, were victorious as the new SA squash champions.
